The oldest reference to Yuda Onsen seems to be in the second year of the Shoji era (1200 CE) when the name had already been recorded and the history of the hot springs discovered. In 1459, the laws and regulations of the Ouchi administration, stated bathing rules "entry into the Yuda hot spring at night". So it is known that the hot spring had been part of their lifestyle at the time.

From long ago, it has been told that a wounded white fox soaked its paw in the pond every night in a garden west of Kongenyama temple to heal the wound. This has been handed down ever since as the " legend of the white fox " related to the hot springs’ discovery.

How to enjoy the spa:

A hot spring bath heals the tired body and mind, but the wrong use of it may damage your body.
Take care to use it well:

  1. To prevent a spike in blood pressure become accustomed to the warm temperature (by first showering your body with warm to hot water outside the tub) before fully immersing the body in hot water.
  2. Before and after bathing, please drink one glass of water. It will reduce the viscosity of the blood.
  3. Due to the high temperature of the hot spring, bathing for a long time may cause dizziness, etc. Bathing immediately after strenuous exercise, may make you feel worse or cause circulatory failure.
  4. Bathing is effective in relieving fatigue, but when one is over tired, wooziness may result. Take about 1 hour to rest, then try bathing in a better physical condition.
  5. To avoid myocardial infarction (heart failure), or cerebral hemorrhage, avoid bathing 30 minutes before a meal (if very hungry) or after the meal (when too full). Avoid bathing if you have become drunk or awaken from a drunken stupor.
  6. Ingredients of the hot spring are absorbed through the skin, so the effect will last about 3 hours after leaving the hot water. Please do not wash them away with soap.
  7. Pay good attention to the points raised by these notes so that you may enjoy the hot springs.
